Outreach Parent Liaisons

Outreach Parent Liaisons are available in different communities around Wyoming to:

  • Provide technical assistance to schools at various levels of intensity.
  • Offer workshops to parent groups and schools on educational topics such as standards and strategies for increasing parent engagement.
  • Work with parent teacher groups on activities that help link what is happening at school to the learning at home.
  • Meet with community groups to encourage a greater understanding of the role families play in their child’s education.
  • Provide a voice for families in the communities and schools that they serve.

Terri Dawson is the Executive Director of Parents Helping Parents of WY, Inc., since it's inception in 1991. She directs both the Parent Information Center and the Parent Education Network from the central office in Buffalo. She and her husband are the parents of three young adults-- their middle child, Ted, has Down Syndrome. At 24 years old, Ted has recently moved out and is living independently with supports, in his own single apartment, and has fulltime employment.

Terri has been actively involved in Special Education and parent involvement in education for the past twenty years. She speaks on parents rights and perspectives on Individuals with Disabilities Education Act around Wyoming and the nation. She is passionate about positive parent involvement in schools and working together to make a difference for ALL children.

Kelly comes to the Parent Education Network with a variety of work experiences; ranging from a position as foreign and domestic logistics coordinator for a catalogue company to banking loan support. Region: Casper, Glenrock, Douglas, and Lusk

BA Psychology and Human Services-- Black Hills State University

Kellie relocated to Wyoming from South Dakota in 2006. She’s worked with children and families for many years through Head Start, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Youth Alternatives and Bethany Christian Services. Most recently she worked with the Partnership Diploma Program, an alternative high school provided by Laramie County School District # 1 and LCCC. She is married to an elementary teacher and together they have one school-aged daughter. Region: Cheyenne

Terri comes to the Parent Education Network with a variety of work experiences; ranging from a position as Wyoming Quit Tobacco Coordinator Manager, parent liaison for Desert View Elementary Title 1, various chair and co-chair positions with community partners, to working as a respiratory therapist at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. Region: Rock Springs, Green River, Wamsutter, Evanston

What is PHP of Wyoming, Inc.?

Parents Helping Parents of Wyoming, Inc is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1990. Governed by a board of directors, the majority who are parents or family members of children with disabilities, PHP 's mission is to provide a means of communication, cooperation, and education to parents and professionals who wish to serve and support children with and without disabilities. We aim to help families become more active in their children's learning and education, and obtain better programs and services through education, support, and referral.
